Fred Lebain is not scared of the mundane or clichés. Instead, he plays with them, superimposing their images on one another. Last spring Lebain took images of various areas in New York City, each one of them an occasion of a ‘first visit’ to the location, in which he photographed and then printed in large poster format. Later, he returned to the same spots for a second visit, capturing a larger framed shot in which he aligned the poster documenting his first visit to the current scene.

Before the advent of the aeroplane, acoustic location was applied to determine the presence and position of ships in fog.
Acoustic location was used from mid-WW1 to the early years of WW2 for the passive detection of aircraft by picking up the noise of the engines. It was rendered obsolete before and during WW2 by the introduction of radar, which was far more effective. Horns give both acoustic gain and directionality; the increased inter-horn spacing compared with human ears increases the observer’s ability to localise the direction of a sound. There were three main kinds of system:
- Personal/wearable horns
- Transportable steerable horns
- Static dishes
- Static walls

Lorena Ros went down to the bottom of society of St. Petersburg Russia, where she has met children, junkies, prostitutes or often all together in one and made all those photos. Sniffing poisonous glues inducing hallucinations seems to be one of the main fun for those kids.

These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.
